What's the Magic Answer then? Why you CAN'T have it all, Part 4

Who said anything about magic?

Alas, Derren Brown I am not (ooo – anyone else remember when he slept in a glass box hanging from a Crane around London Bridge?!!) anyway, I digress. Magic it isn’t however, I will be sharing a key.

A key to what?

A key to unlock a life that is defined on YOUR terms, a life in which you can:

·       Ditch the overwhelm

·       Calm the ‘3am’ sweats (alas – not the perimenopausal ones – if anyone has THAT key, I’m all ears…)

·       Feel fulfilled

·       Be a more present parent

·       Nail your work goals

·       LIVE THE LIVE YOU DESERVE

Ok, maybe this sounds a bit like magic? The key (drum roll please) is…..

KINDNESS

What?! Is that it?!

Yes.

100% .

The power behind the particular door this particular key opens is extending kindness to YOURSELF in the say way you do to others.

·       Self-compassion

·       Self-care

·       Self-forgiveness

·       Self-love

·       Self – empowerment

·       Self-growth

·       Self-validation

You get the idea….. as a parent (and let’s face it – as a mum 9 times out of 10) we put are all too used to putting ourselves at the bottom of the pile. We may not even realise we’re doing this. It’s become so engrained in us, it’s our default / habit.

This may stem from feeling as though we have no choice, being trapped in negative thinking patterns, experiences we’ve had from our own childhood as well as observing those around us that shape what we do – and what we are ‘expected’ to do.

From the first article in this mini-series, it could be the role the societal ‘rhetoric’ has played over and over “you can have it all” or perhaps believing that because there are so many others worse than us (and I am not doubting the privilege that so many of us – myself as a white, western, financially secure, woman included) we don’t have the ‘right’ to feel as though we deserve something else, or hell, even question it.

I truly believe that unless we reign these habits and self sabotaging behaviours we will forever be overwhelmed. Forever on that hamster wheel, forever feeling as though we are just about keeping our heads above water, forever feeling as though if we just get over XYZ / through this term / this project etc it will be ok.

No.

Enough is enough.

I invite you to flip the notion of ‘having it all’ to having YOUR all.

Like I said, there is no magic answer and indeed, you are the only one who can discover and define what you need, you are the only one who can carve out those steps to get there.

That said – to do this on your own, especially when you’re feeling as though you’re hanging on by a thread and the mental load is becoming too much is sometimes too much. Join me in one of two ways and we can partner to get you living a life that isn’t defined by ‘surviving’, instead, a life in which you are balanced, fulfilled, present and HAPPY.
